    GANGER: Gancer deaths are increasing throughout the country. During '1958, 96,799 persons died of cancer and of these 19,809 died of lung cancer. These deaths from lung cancer are increasing at the rate of 1,000 a year. This is a national problem v/hich calls for research- In Penrith there v/ere twenty three deaths from cancer during 1958o Pour of these cases were cancer of the lung. IIvTFEGTIOUS DISEASES OTHER THAI'T TUBERCULOSIS; The incidence during 1958 was comparatively light. The following- table gives particulars of the notified cases. The previous year tViere were tliree, PKEUI40HIA, Nine cases were notified and there were two deaths. One death less than recorded in 1957* D^YSENTERY, The 56 cases notified were all Sonne Dysentery, I^ourteen of these cases were from four neighbouring families on Raiselands Croft, One of these cases occurred in a woman who v/as a food handler and worked in a bakery. She was suspended from work untii she was free from infection. Ten other cases were from Station View £ind average age of these patients was 81 years. Most of the remaining cases occured in children.
