    The milk in many inftances is fecreted in its ufual quantity; in fome it is increafed, in others* it is diminifhed ; and in violent cafes, it is generally fupprefied. The urine is generally of a high co- lour, fmall in quantity, and difcharged with confi- derable difficulty. Sometimes a burning heat at- tends the difcharge of it, and in fome inftances it is altogether fuppreffedf. There is ufually much thirft. The tongue is ufualiy white, and is moid and foft to the touch. In this fituation it fometimes continues until the approach of death ; but commonly before this event it becomes dry and rough, and changes to a dark brown colour, often with a mixture of yellow nefs. Watchfulnefs, anxiety, and dejection of mind are very ufual attendants. With thefe fymptoms the fever continues for a few days, more or lefs in i ifferent inftances ; and in its progrefs is attended with an increafed fre- quency, quicknefs, and irregularity of the pulfe, and frequently with a confiderable diminution of its force. * Leake, 2 vol. p. 53.
