About this work

Description

Woodcut illustration from a volume dated 1817 (22nd year of the Jiaqing reign period of the Qing dynasty). This illustration shows the relationship between various sectors of the child's palm and forearm and the five zang and six fu viscera. The diagram is accompanied by succinct explanations of massage (tuina, 'push and pull') techniques for reinforcement (bu), purging (xie), warming (wen) and cooling (liang).
