    VIZETELLY, BRANSTOM & Co. HAVE JUST PUBLISHED, PRICE ONE GUINEA SPLENDIDLY BOUND IN EMBROIDERED CRIMSON SILK, THE YOUNG LADY’S BOOK. Phis elegant Work has already attained the highest distinction among the literary presents, which modern taste and enterprise have de- vised. It forms the first successful attempt to place in the hands of a young Lady a complete repertory of every graceful and IMPROVING PURSUIT, EXERCISE, AND ACCOMPLISHMENT; of all that contributes to the perfection of the female character, and constitutes the accomplished English gentlewoman. Extraordinary pains have been taken, that the execution should be equal to the design; and to secure the best possible information on the various subjects comprised in the volume, recourse has been had, in every instance, to first-rate ability. Attention is, therefore, confidently courted to the correctness of its de- tails ; the importance of producing a Work, which' should lay claim to a higher merit than the elegance of its appearance, having strongly pressed itself on the consideration of its projectors, who were anxious that, while it might bear comparison for its adornments with any of its contemporaries, it should attain a more durable reputation by the quality and interest of its contents. The Young Lady’s Book commences with an Essay on Moral Deportment, in which the duties of the female character are affec- tionately enforced. This is followed by Treatises on those Sciences, which a more enlarged view, than had hitherto obtained, of what ought to be included among feminine acquirements, has rendered popular and indis- pensable objects of study. Botany, Mineralogy, Concfiology, Entomology, and Orni- thology, are discussed on scientific principles, but in a style so familiar as to present a ready clue to all their intricacies. Accomplishments of a lighter nature assume the next place in the Work: — Under the head of The Toilet, the graces of the person receive their due consideration; and a standard of taste, founded on principles unin- fluenced by the caprices of fashion, is attempted to be established. In this treatise, comparative costume, deduced from historical documents, and illustrated by engravings of the personal adornments of various eras, is critically discussed; while the colour and materials of dress, the tasteful arrangement of the hair, the judicious selection of jewellery, and other matters of minor importance, have their appropriate share of attention.
