of the Infirmary and the Lord Mayor with them would attend Church in their corporate capacity on that day. I hope that some consideration may be given to this suggestion. “ The possible further co-ordination of the Medical services gives promise of great things, and I hope very much during the year this proposal may be carried into effect. The need of co-ordination for increasing efficiency and economy is well-known to those responsible for the management of the various Institutions.” The Resolution was then put to the meeting and carried unanimously. Mr. F. J. Kitson, who moved “ That the cordial thanks of this meeting be tendered to Mr. A. P. Nicholson for his services as Chairman and Treasurer during the past year, and that he be and hereby is re-elected for the ensuing year,” said: “ Mr. Nicholson has taken the keenest interest in the work of the Infirmary, and it is with the greatest pleasure I ask you to give your thanks. In regard to the second part of the Resolution, I have absolute confidence. It has been my pleasure to sit under the Chairman for the past five months, and I know how well the business has always been conducted, and how much Mr. Nicholson holds the Institution at heart.” Mr. H. Collinson, in seconding the Resolution, stated: “ As Mr. Kitson has said, perhaps the ordinary individual hardly realizes the amount of work which is necessary to be put in by the Chairman if he is to do his job properly, and besides time it requires tact, and it also requires above all things a knowledge of finance, and I think this Institution and the City of Leeds is fortunate in that Mr. Nicholson has been induced to take the Chairmanship. “The Vicar of Leeds has referred to the Waiting List* When it is said that 1,700 are waiting admission to this Hospital, it does not mean that 1,700 are going in danger of their lives. But the Waiting List is large, and the accom¬ modation we have is inadequate. No one more than the Honorary Staff regret the necessity that patients have to be sent home occasionally a good deal earlier than they would like, because of the demand upon beds for acute cases, and it is acute and accident cases which fill up the beds. We are, therefore, unable to keep patients as long as we should like, and as long as we ought. Schemes of extensions have been and are being considered, but until there is financial backing these cannot be proceeded with.
