Description

Seventeen letters from Francis Galton to his mother, F A V Galton and his brother, Darwin Galton, about the African voyage.

The letters date from 02 April 1850 as Galton is awaiting his ship in Portsmouth. Throughout the letters he details his preparations, plans for travel and potential routes, financial arrangements, hiring men and acquiring provisions, and problems encountered during the expedition. Several copy letters have been attached to the originals.
