No text description is available for this image![Refuse Collection and Street Clearisin.g:, Refuse collection and disposal in the Borou^ is done by direct labour and carried out most satisfactorilyo The volume of refuse £:rows year by year requiring more equipment, and re-organisation of collection routes, but problems arising are soon resolve do All the toTm.’ s refuse is deposited at Qua,rry Woods on the Eastern Boundary of the Borough, under the supervision of a tip orderly, and from time to time, inspected by officers of the Council’s staff to ensure that tipping proceeds in a proper manner and that adequate precautions are taken against rodents and insects and any other nuisance. llo major outbreaics of fire were e:qperienced during the year, as much of the inflammable material vras first removed and incinerated on selected areas of the site with the minimum of nuisance or danger, under the circumstances. Rivers and Streams• There were fortunately no complaints made daring the year about pollution of the river Wansbeck, but some pollution was noted in a stream caused by a sewer overflov/, the sev;er being obstructed. This was promptly remedied. The Pollution of the Churchbum mentioned in my report for 19^5 cleared up early in 1966, follov/ing repairs to a defective drainage system in the vicinity. Camping Sites and other . Recreational Facilities. There are no organised, official camping sites in the Borough, but other : recreational facilities are well provided for in the parks and open spaces throughout the Borou^, e.g, Carlisle Park where bowls, tennis, putting, and clock golf can be enjoyed in pleasant floral surroundings. Alongside is the excellent and much appreciated childrens paddling pool and aand play-pit,Tonorth of the town is the sports stadium at Grange House field v;here rugby football matches are played. Southwards is the beautiful stretch of Deuchar Park to delight the eye, at all times of the year, and to the south-west is Storey Park and The Common where football pitches are provided. There are similar facilities at Stobhillgate and in this area there is the Iforpeth Cricket and Tennis Club. Adjoining the Corniaon is the excellent Morpeth Golf Club situated on a well elevated area+of the town. Other attractions include several ancient historic buildings,/pleasant promenade walk beside the Wansbeck from Carlisle Park, leading to the green-sward of High Stanners, much appreciated by residents and visitors alike as a restful retreat, for the nautically minded, boating on the Wansbeck in the region of Carlisle Park during the summer months and for everyone the delights of the many floral displays in Carlisle Park itself, from Spring to Autumn, Last but not least, when thinking in terms of good health,are the many attractive and pleasant walks through the large grassland and wooded areas, of Castle Banks, and other parts of the town, Swinminio: Baths, There is not as yet, a public swimming bath in the Borough but there are great hopes of this additional attraction being provided in the foreseeable future.
