After a plate designed by William Cowper, the anatomist, and engraved by Michael Vandergucht, and published in James Drake's Anthropologia nova, London 1707, ii, fig. 20. It was later used as an illustration to D. Diderot and J. Le Rond d'Alembert's Encyclopédie (plates volume 18, Paris 1762, pl. 8) and reappears in several eighteenth-century English encyclopedias
