    Surgery. Though my friend, Dr. Samuel Alexander, whose place at this clinic I occupy to-day, en- dorsed by my still older colleague and host, Dr. Frederic S. Dennis, gave me, on my arrival in New York a few days ago, but little chance of escape into Florida, I feel that an apology is due from me to you for addressing you on subjects relating to the practice of surgery which do not now present any material feature of originality or novelty.
