![[4] examination of several such patients after death, but as I could discover no appear- ance, which might lead me to conclude that the complaint of the abdomen was any other than a symptomatic Peritonitis at-. tacking a person, already labouring under ‘great debility, I do not consider it as demanding any separate description. It must be regarded as a symptom only of the ‘puerperal fever, and not as an idiopathic disease of the Peritonzeum, which alone falls within the purpose of the present discussion. The Treatment. The nature of the disease being once dis- tinctly ascertained, the method of cure is obvious. In the first place it is necessary to bleed largely from the system :—sixteen ounces should be taken from an adult, and a proporuonably less quantity from a pa- tient not arrived at that period.
