About this work

Description

A cluster of human chromosomes about to be pulled apart during the process of mitosis (cell division). They have been imaged while inside a living and dividing breast cancer cell. The chromosomes have been stained with Hoescht dye which binds specifically to DNA. The colour indicates the amount of dye bound - white/yellow indicating the highest density. Biomedical Image Awards 2001.
