About this work

Description

According to the Protoevangelium of James, the parents of the Virgin, Joachim and Anne, presented her as a child in the temple at Jerusalem as a thank-offering after years of childlessness. Joachim and Mary stand on the right as the diminutive Mary proceeds towards the priest. Two lambs lie at the bottom of the print, ready to be sacrificed
