About this work

Description

This very serious film looks at the difficulties surrounding giving contraceptives to unmarried younger women as well as to the poor and 'ignorant.' A Family Planning Association agent in Birmingham goes to the house of a Mrs. Rigby who at 23 already has 5 children, lives in very impoverished conditions, and has no knowledge whatsoever of birth control - the film includes much close-up footage of her talking about her sex life. In Northenden, Manchester, the Family Planning Association set up a clinic giving contraceptive advice to the unmarried which was much opposed by the general public, the film includes footage of the older generation voicing their concerns about contraception. And we visit a Brook Advisory Clinic in Birmingham which advises young women about contraception.
