About this work

Description

First programme in a two-part documentary examining the question of whether there is such a thing as a soul. Psychologists, Philosophers and Cognitive Scientists discuss the search for 'the self' and the contemplation of the soul. Professor of Humanities Harold Bloom cites William Shakespeare as inventing the modern self - that we are free to create our own story. Artist and Schizophrenia sufferer Peter Arakawa talks about his work. There is discussion of the activity of the left (rational) side of the brain and the thought that there is too much left hemisphere activity in this modern age. Motivational speaker Anthony Robbins suggests there is a more empowering story we could be telling ourselves.
