Notebook containing medical recipes, commenced in 1650, but containing a few later and non-medical entries.

Remedies for common ailments and more serious conditions including plague.

ff. 4r.-7r. The Table of the Ensuinge Medecines.

ff. 8r.-24r. A booke of physicall receits.

ff. 25r.-76v. Chyrurgery: Heere follow Sundry Medecines for wounds, sores, swellings, bruses Aches & c.

ff. 77r.-86r. miscellaneous recipes.

ff. 86v.-91v. largely blank, some spelling exercises.

Physical description

91 ff. (original pagination 1-142, then irregular foliation 143-147) 183 × 141 mm. Contemporary vellum binding, stamped with a daisy and acorn decorative centre incorporating the initials 'F.S.' on front and back boards.

Biographical note

Some recipes are attributed to particular persons, for example a Dr. Vilvin (?Robert Vilvain).
