Biographical note

The Healthy Living Programme was established and run by Healing Arts, Isle of Wight, with the support of the New Opportunities Fund and the Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Trust. The programme aimed to involve and engage patients in arts activities and creative programmes. No prior experience or arts skills were required to participate. Schemes included:

"Time Being", the Healing Arts' "Arts on Prescription" scheme for individuals with mild to moderate health problems such as depression and long term ill health. The programme was delivered by a team of professional artists delivering a 12 week series of sessions in music, creative writing, movement and the visual arts.

"Sounds Lively! Choirs": Singing for Health were choirs for all ages and all types of health conditions.

"Sound Start": music with babies and "Music Start": music for families, 0-5. A programme introducing music and singing into the everyday creative lives of families from pregnancy to five years.

"Music for Stroke Survivors": A programme for stroke survivors and their carers to enable emotions to be expressed non-verbally through music nd to stimulate physical movement and recovery of speech.
