Ellis and his St a IT for monthly Fire T >ri II training, and Mr. G. W. Doe for similar service to the Porters. Mr. J. Chase reports that th<* Stamp Collecting Scheme for the Wireless Fund has defrayed all tin* expenses for the year, amounting to several pounds, and there is a small balance in hand. As many other Institutions throughout the country have recently inaugurated similar schemes every effort to support this fund is still needed. Tinfoil continues to provide a useful income, and the “ Hun ” Pennies Collection shows a very welcome increase. The Ladies' Linen League made a special effort last year to raise funds for the equipment of the New Wards, with linen, blankets, etc. For this purpose, by means of collecting boxes taken by members of the League. £189 18s. 7d. was collected, leaving only a small balance of £16 to be made up. which has since been reduced bv a gift of £5 os. Od. by the Goldhanger Players. The usual work has been fully maintained, and the subscription list shows an increase of £10 over 1936, £*261 14s. 8d. have been received in subscriptions and 2,181 articles of linen. Rayon goods for sale in aid of the funds were once more gratefully received from Messrs. Courtaulds Ltd. The death of Mrs. Horace Egerton- Green, the founder of the League in 1909, and for many years its hon. secretary and treasurer, recalls her close association with this work, and her loss will be greatly regretted by many friends who knew her in past years. To the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. Gerald C. Bonham) the best thanks of the Committee are due for the great help given during their year of office, as well as to the Honorary Solicitor (Mr. Gerald C. Benham), the Chaplain (liev. Canon G. A. Campbell, M.A.), the ladies who continuously take duty at the Out-Patients’ Buffet, the Press for most useful publicity, and the members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and Police Force for their never failing help. Also to many other friends, known and unknown, for their assistance and support during the year.
