Primary malignant disease of the vermiform appendix has long been recognized, but the earlier reports of its occurrence are not sufficiently conclusive to warrant their acceptance as genuine, either from a lack of any histo- logical confirmation or from absence of anatomical proof that the growth in the appendix was not secondary. In reviewing the literature we have considered all cases of primary malignant disease of the vermiform appendix, whether described as carcinoma, endothelioma, or sarcoma. Historical.
