About this work

Description

Reports on the work of Medecins sans Frontieres in combatting African sleeping sickness among the rural population in the White Nile valley of northern Uganda. Highlights the problem of re-infection of areas where the population has recently been screened due to uncontrolled immigration of refugees from the civil war in southern Sudan. Includes dramatic archive film footage of Dr. Eugene Jamot's anti-trypanosomiasis campaign in the Central Highlands of the French Cameroons during the 1920s, "La Mission Jamot au Cameroun" and extracts from the Wellcome Trust Film Unit's "The Life Cycle of the Tsetse Fly" (1987) and "Tsetse Fly Control" (1988).
