Description
Miliary tuberculosis
This is a low power view of the liver from an HIV-positive adult with miliary tuberculosis. The lesion consists of degenerate and dead unactivated macrophages, with some surrounding lymphocytes. Note the absence of tuberculous granulomas. This is an example of non-reactive (anergic) tuberculosis, which is characteristic of immunocompromised patients. H&E stain.
