    PREFACE. A paper read by me before the West Kent Medico- Chirurgical Society in 1889, on Ocular Headache, forms the framework upon which the following pages have been built. The subject of Eyestrain has been very briefly dealt with in ophthalmic text-books, and most of our knowledge of it is to be found in the scattered articles and papers by various authors, in the reviews and transactions of Societies, that have appeared from time to time. The subject of Refraction is so intimately associated with Eyestrain that it has been found impossible, in many cases, to avoid referring to it in detail. I must express my thanks to the many authors whose works have been consulted, but my greatest debt is due to the classical treatises of Bonders and Landolt. ERNEST CLARKE. 112, Hurley Street, W.
