As I am very particular in having the brass-plate, mu die, key-hole, escutcheon, knocker, and everything bout the front door, kept clean and bright, I wish to . now how you manage them P A. The only difficulty is with the large plate with the • ame, and the key-hole plate. In each case, so as to 1 lean them without injuring the paint at the edges, I r nt the exact size and form of the plate out of a piece of mill-board, or very stout paste-board; place the mill ; oard against the door, and rub the plate with leather end some rotten-stone, or crocus, made damp with sweet iJL Then I wipe the plate with a soft dry cloth. Q. And the large brass handle, and the bell-pull, and Lae knocker ? A. All the brass work may be kept clean with the ■ather and rotten-stone. The knocker, if painted, or : f bronze, will require to be only dusted and wiped. ATTENTION TO BELLS, KNOCKERS, MESSAGES, ETC. Q. Are you aware that it is part of your business nmediately to answer the bell, or the knocker at the mil door—never to keep any person waiting—as well as le bell from the parlour, drawingroom, or bed-rooms ? A. Yes, ma’am. Q. And how do you open and close the hall door, on le entrance and departure of a visitor ? A. In either case I open the door to its full width ; id on the departure of a visitor, I do not close the oor until the lady or gentleman has left. Q.
