About this work

Description

Hippocrates already warned for the dangers of scurvy and other ship and sea related diseases such as typhus, diarrhea and insanity. The deprivation of fresh food, the extreme working conditions and a lack of hygiene on board was fatal for many fisher-men. An epidemic outbreak in the confined space of a ship often had devastating results. 'Zeeziek' is the catalogue of the exposition in the NAVIGO (Koksijde). Exhibition: Nationaal Visserijmuseum Oostduinkerke, Belgium (7.6.-17.11.2013).
