Since sulpho- salicylic acid detects 1 part of albumin in 40,000 of water, it is clear that any alteration in the behaviour of the sac towards albumin is indicated at the earliest possible moment and before quantities recognisable with ninhydrin can pass. And, further, by the use of graduated doses of serum any altera- tion in the permeability of the sacs to amino-acids would be indicated by discordancy in the results of the ninhydrin tests.
