    cannot but state the gratification I feel, at the progress this doctrine is making through- out Great Britain; and I may say, the whole learned world. My reason for wish- ing it to be studied, is this, it being the only science by which we can arrive at any thing like a satisfactory conclusion, that at last we are acquainted with the functions of the brain, and consequently the manifes- tations of the mind. The science is yet in its infancy ; and I find from experience, that its chief opponents are ignorant of its principles, and ignorant of the structure of the brain, anatomically,* as well as phre- nologically ; or if they possess any know- ledge on the subject, it is only sufficient to some of the impediments, defects, and abuses, existing in the present system of Medical Education ; with sug- gestions for their removal and correction.
