About this work

Description

This fungal lesion on the skin of the trunk shows a circinate morphology. Tinea corporis is caused by species of keratinophylic dermatophyte. The differential diagnosis includes leprosy as a central healing area is commonly seen in individual plaques of borderline tuberculoid (BT), tuberculoid (TT) and even mid-borderline (BB) leprosy. The vesicular border and the presence of fungal filaments in skin scrapings exclude leprosy, and confirm the diagnosis of tinea corporis. Nodular plaques of leishmaniasis tend to ulcerate early and present with an inflammatory reaction surrounding the lesion.
