Description

An incomplete copy (with no audio) showing the work of the National institute for medical research. It starts with exterior shots of the institute followed by a Jain temple in India. There is an Indian man suffering from malaria with a high fever. A tsetse fly is on a slide being dissected. Malaria research in a laboratory. The next sequences relate to leprosy. In a village in India, there is a leprosy sufferer with a disfigured face, a man with paralysed hands and boy with skin disfigurement. Babies are treated with drugs. Tissue specimens are delivered to London and tests are carried out (the leg of an anaesthetised rat is injected). In the laboratory, an armadillo also features. A sign on a locked vault says 'W.H.O. Armadillo tissue bank'. Finally there are shots of shanty towns in India and shots of villagers fetching water and bathing in the river.
