    quam verbis Domini Maclean, Legionis lixi. chirurgi, utendo : “ I have no besitation in say- ing, that, even in the very last stage of the dis- ease, in the robust European, and also in the en- feebled native, bleeding should form a principle in our treatment. No sinking of the pulse, or general appearance of debility, should deter us. They are the consequence of overaction, from an undue quantity of blood being thrown upon the abdominal and thoracic viscera, which are relieved by removing the cause.
