These papers were given to the Library by A.S. Hall's daughter in 2009.

Biographical note

Alexander Stephenson Hall was born in Bradford in 1904 and qualified in medicine in 1929. In the 1930s he was a Tuberculosis Officer in Middlesex and, from 1947-1969, a consultant chest physician for a group of hospitals in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. He was heavily involved in the activities of the British Tuberculosis Association and in 1947 became Honorary Secretary. During the 1940s he was also Editor of the Association's journal Tubercle and from 1959 to 1961 he was Vice-President of the Association. A.S. Hall was asked to write a history for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Association in 1958, but this was never published. He retired in 1969 and died in May 1995.
