Description

Formulary and notebook of William Clapham, a graduate of Edinburgh Medical School (M.D. 1775). Containing medical notes and receipts, some apparently abstracted from (University?) manuscripts listed on the end flyleaf. With some later family accounts. ff. 1r.-2v. Notes and exercises in medical latin. ff. 3r.-50v. Formulae et casus: prescriptions, many copied from reports on cases at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary treated by John Gregory (1724-73) and William Cullen (1710-90), the latter from 1772-3. ff. 51r.-80r. Largely blank, occasional accounts of Richard Clapham, Liverpool, 1833-35. ff. 80v.-90v. Additional receipts, generally extracted from printed sources, with preliminary definitions from (unidentified) lectures on the institutions of medicine.
