Papers include SANA briefings, monitoring of regional coverage and meetings on civil defence, local authority civil defence publications, Working Group reports. Also includes papers relating to the GLC's Greater London Area War Risk Study (GLAWARS), as well as a GLC fact pack, published by the Nuclear Policy Unit, "What would it be like after nuclear attack? A view from inside the Civil Defence Establishment" (nd).

GLC established the Greater London Area War Risk Study (GLAWARS) in 1984 to examine the impact of nuclear attack and the value of civil defence. GLAWARS consisted of a Commission of scientific and military experts who reported on the military threat, the effects of attack, and the efficacy of civil defence measures. The findings were published as a book in June 1986, London Under Attack: The Report of the Greater London Area War Risk Study.
