A woman's fight to choose.

Gives the history of the abortion law reform campaign which culminated in the 1967 Abortion Act. Women and doctors speak of the problems and dangers of termination of pregnancy before the Act. They give their views on the present provisions whereby a woman seeking abortion must obtain the consent of 2 doctors who must state that continuation of the pregnancy would endanger the woman's physical or mental health. Dr. Margaret White (Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child - SPUC) describes the SPUC's campaign to prevent the passing of the 1967 Act and Lord Steele of Aikwood explains why he supported the Act. Campaigners for further reform state their case. Finally, the programme visits the dedicated abortion ward of Sheffield's Northern General hospital to examine its work and ethos.
