Sanskrit Delta 82. Jain textile. Watercolour on textile. Indian subcontinent, 16th century. Jainism, which is also known as the Jain Dharma, is an ancient religion that originated in the Indian subcontinent. Its belief systems are concerned primarily with the human soul and its relationship with laws governing existence in the universe, the soul's relationship with other living beings, and the state of the soul's eternal future. This textile depicts the Jain concept of the universe in the form of a cosmic man.
