Description
The first episode focuses on the lived experienced of having a cochlear implant and a young woman, Amelia, learning to hear again. Her auditory experiences are variable and this is brilliantly communicated on the drama's sound track. The extended family situation is quite complicated and her uncle is a senior police-officer who becomes embroiled in a number of cases involving violent crime. Amelia witnesses a murder in the park near where they live and she is staying temporarily. In the process of this, Amelia loses the implant processor. She is traumatised and frightened by what she saw but seems unable to communicate what she has seen. The investigation unravels.

This superior drama in four parts has high production values, sensitively and comprehensively explores the social and ethical implications of cochlear implants by focusing on the impact they have on the lead character and those around her. The scientific story is fundamental to the story line whilst at the same time not dominating the script or moving the drama into the realms of worthy'.
