Description

This film contains clinical material of a naked child. Consultant on label identified as Dr J. D Spillane. Inclusion body encephalitis is a rare chronic progressive encephalitis caused by the measles virus and occurs primarily in children and young adults.

Good condition. Film is run at 16fps.
There are four different Kodak Safety Film edge codes on this film (UK/Canadian). There are two different styles of intertitle; one indicating a probable completion date of the 1950s, the other stylistically may be 1930s (c. 1935). Spillane was known to have visited Canada for at least one conference relating to neurology and this film may have been shown as part of his presentation.
1 of 121 clinical cine films (1950s-80s) donated to the Wellcome Library by the former University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff University in 2013. The majority of the films were created by the college as part of their teaching activities with most dating from between 1950-80. There are a few earlier examples of films from elsewhere from the 1930s which were in distribution and were collected by the university.
