    member was ever eleEled, or admitted under it: that not fo much as its new name, of The prejident, fellowes and common- #///£ ^ the kings colledge of phyfitians in the cittie of London, was ever affumed. So far from it: that the very petition from the college to the king, in 1678, concerning Huy hert the quack; which was read, before your Lordfhips, as evidence of accepting his charter, from its mentioning the grants and patents not only of his majefly but of his royal ancefiors; appears by its title. The petition of the prefident and commonalty of the college of phyfitians, to have been praefented in the old name. So that the loyal acknowledgement in the body of it, for his majefty’s goodnefs in granting that charter; being in fadt onely a plan for inlarging our privileges, and a promife to crown the work in parliament with the royal aflent; was introduced by fo abfolute a difavowal of accepting it for any thing farther, as even the difowning its very name to his majefty’s face, fince the parliament had denied it exiftence. For it is remarkable; that there was not one fingle privilege in it, but what was to receive its being from parliament: the onely two regal grants, of exemption from bearing arms, and of fee- farm of fines and forfeitures, being before made to the col¬ lege, by the charter of K. f. I*. And we have, among. pur archives, antient acquittances for this rent from the exche¬ quer : by one of which dated, above a year after K. C. II, granted his charter, it appears, that this rent was even then, as it has been ever fince, paid under the former charter, and not under the latter**.
