Notes

"The idea behind Mind's Eye is simple really: we need a positive way to acknowledge mental health. People are too quick to dismiss it, they assume that if they can't see it, it doesn't exist. Likewise the majority of the media only act to cast mental illness in a negative light, as we saw last October with The Sun's inflammatory front page headline which declared '1,200 killed by mental patients'. Comments like this only enforce the stigma around mental illness. When one in four of us will experience mental health difficulties in our lifetime, why do the mental health services lack funding? Why isn't mental health talked about? Why is there so little education surrounding mental health? Creativity is one of the best ways to help express your feelings, and so I asked if people would send me their creative responses to mental health. It didn't have to be mental illness, happiness is just a big a part of a person's mental health as depression is. I was overwhelmed at the response I had and I can't thank the people who submitted enough. There were so many of you that this zine is just the first part, and it's been a long time coming! Hopefully you will enjoy reading the work collected here as much as I enjoyed editing and compiling it!"--Back page.
