![EDUCATION DEPARTMENT. MEDICAL OFFICER’S REPORT FOR THE YEAR 1920. To iJic ('haiynuin of the Kduculion C()r,u}iii!cc Sir, [ litivc the honour to pn'seiit niy Annual Rkpurt as School Medical Officer for 1920. The occurrence of so many uiiuor aihueuts which, in the main, are those' conditions which a little more care hu' the child in the home would obviate', does not shew', as it eenght, any falling off as compared wdth last year. Tlu' question of cleanliness ev'e'U intrneles wlu'U the chilelren e)f seceaidary schools are inspected. Tilt' pro\'ision e)f a treatment clinic wliie-h dt'als to such a large extent with conditions which have originally been aggravated by neglect, may have' a tendency to cause parents to forget their natural responsibilities, anrl if there is a slackening of this sense' of res])onsibility in evhat are appareiitlv miner matters, such as cleanliness, then the mori' serious conditions will ])!'obably be neglected. 'I'here is no royal road to health, aiul a child needs constant tvatclifnlness on the part of the parent ever both its moral and its physical wt'lfare if it has to escape such })erils as the formation of habits, and the accinisition of diseases, w'hich are so likely to cause' serious disability in later life. This is all the more necessary in an iiuhistj'iaJ town like ours, wTcre c'ondhions are' far from ieleal for tie' ])reservatie)n ejf a lu'altliy body.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b28965395_0003.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
