Description

Correspondence, mainly between Smithells and the parents of suspected thalidomide babies in Merseyside, about forming a parents' support group. Founded on 11th August 1962, the group was named Merseyside Kevin Club, after one of the worst affected children.

Includes correspondence with American journalist Stephen M. Spencer who was researching thalidomide children in England and Germany at the time. Also a copy of his article "The untold story of the thalidomide babies", Saturday Evening Post, vol. 235, issue 37 (20th October 1962), p.19.
