A singerie: a monkey-barber is trimming the whiskers of a cat. Left, a monkey-surgeon is treating the injured foot of another monkey. Another monkey with a wound on its head is being brought in for treatment

A painting of a similar subject painted on wood 16.8 x 22.2 cm, signed by David Teniers was offered for sale at Christie's, New York, 4 October 2007, lot 4. It differed in detail from the present composition and omitted the figures in the left background
