Description

Philidor played exhibition matches on annual visits to London from Paris. They were open to paying spectators. On the left of the print, wearing a turban, is Yusuf Agâh Efendi, the first permanen ambassador of the Sublime Porte to the Court of St James, who arrived in London in December 1793.
