    DISEASES OF ANIMALS ACTS The following information has been obtained from the Chief Constable’s Annual Report:— FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE. During the year the Borough was subjected to the restrictions imposed by the Foot and Mouth (Infected Areas Restrictions) Order 1938, which resulted in the issue of 302 licences authorising the move- ment of 2,533 pigs, 595 head of cattle and 140 sheep. FOWL PEST. Eleven cases of suspected Fowl Pest were reported during the year, but none was confirmed. Resulting from movement restrictions imposed by the Fowl Pest (East Norfolk Infected Area) Order 1958 licences were issued for the movement of 318,777 head of poultry. There were also 36 declarations issued in respect of 1,048 head of poultry, under the Live Poultry (Restrictions) Orders 1954 to 1957. SWINE FEVER. Twenty-five cases of suspected Swine Fever were reported to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Five were confirmed and the necessary restrictions enforced. During the year 737 licences for the movement of 9,601 swine were issued. DISEASES OF ANIMALS (WASTE FOODS) ORDER, 1957. Seventy-seven premises are now licensed under the above Order. Regular visits of inspection of such premises were carried out. One person was cautioned for an infringement of the Order. PET ANIMALS ACT, 1951. On the 1st April 1958 the duties under this Act were undertaken by the Local Authority. Nine premises were licensed under the Act, and visits of inspection were carried out on 31 occasions. RODENT CONTROL The authority employed one Rodent Officer and five rodent opera- tives. One rodent operative retired in July, and the vacancy was not filled. There was a gradual decrease in the number of rat and mice in- festatipns, the majority of which were minor in character. There were no reports or evidence of the presence of ship rats for the second year running. It is interesting to note that during 1946-47 approximately one-third of the rat infestation was due to ship rats.
