Second heart transplant, Istanbul, Turkey. Cihat Önal, 51, a construction worker, lies in a coma after being seriously injured during a traffic accident. Önal, is seen prior to having his heart removed at the Istanbul Chest Surgery Centre Hospital on November 26th. The heart of the donor was then transplanted by Dr Siyami Ersek, 48, who with his team of 35, carried out a 4-hour operation on Ali Akgul 26 a farm worker. 28th November, 1968.
