This documentary looks at the strange world of re-borns - dolls made to look exactly like newborn babies. We meet Jaime who makes these babies, customising them to exactly how the purchaser wishes. And we meet two women going through the process of purchasing new babies. Christine is trying to replace the grandson she lost when he emigrated with his mother to New Zealand, while Sue already has a number of babies and travels to America to buy a baby with open eyes and a smile. The womens' husbands are a combination of bemused and troubled by their partners' desire to have such life-like dolls and the programme leaves one with very mixed emotions about the complexities of maternal psychology.
