About this work

Description

The 6th part of an 8-part series in which Dr. Alice Roberts, doctor and anatomist, explores the workings of the human body. This part looks at the immune system and explores how it works to protect the body from danger, whether perceived or real. Roberts is tested for allergies and how the immune system fights off foreign microbes is described and shown. However, sometimes the immune system attacks itself and autoimmune disorders such as MS arise. The difference between viral and bacterial infections is stressed and the vital work of antibodies is demonstrated.
