About this work

Description

A manuscript volume written in one hand recording a series of anatomical and surgical notes given during the late eighteenth century. The volume is anonymous and undated, it has been divided into the following sections: Anatomy pp. 1-399, Operations of Surgery pp. 400-512, the Gravid Uterus pp. 513-611, Preparations and Injections pp. 612-623 and an Index from p. 624 but this only goes up to the letter S. The author has also numbered the lectures each of the notes come from.

The lectures were probably given by one of the Hunter brothers, most likely William Hunter due to the large portion of obstetrics and anatomy notes. There are several references to a Dr Hunter, such as 'Dr Hunter conceives the spongy part...' (p. 532) and 'Dr John Hunter thinks the term canine wrong...' (p. 502).
