Glover film No. 1, Bionomics and biology of tsetse species

Film one (of two) covers general biology of tsetse flies (larval sequence); techniques; riverside tsetse biology; game testing and biology. There are eight species of tsetse fly noted between Senegal and Kenya. The work of shrub clearning and erecting the traps within the forest is carried out by Black African assistants. Each species of tsetse fly is noted on the film with intertitles and a rostrum camera shot from a textbook/poster indicating its features from pulpae to adult insect. From 4 minutes in, there are aerial shots over a winding river and vegetation leading into the water. Upon arrival (not shown), the team go onto the river in a motorboat and then investigate other areas. They trap small mammals and investigate which plants harbour the insect. Big game (elephants and rhino) are filmed from some distance. From the air, a grid like pattern is evident where the team have been systematically studying the presence of the flies. This proven from the stools of boar from the area. Ends abruptly.
