![LETTER FROM JAMES WATT, ESQ. TO THE EDITOR. Aston Hall, February 5, 1840. My Deah SlH, You have satisfied me that the time has now arrived for the publication of the documents in my possession, relative to my Ehither’s discovery of the Theory of the Composition of Mater. After the testimony borne by M. Arago in his hhoge, and by Lord Brougham in his Historical Xote ajipended to it, I deemed such publication not neces- sary, and certainly not urgent. Mj opinion was in no degree affected liy the weak declamation of the llev. W. Vernon Ilarcourt, at the meeting of the British Association at ]3irmingham in 1839, Avhich, shortly afterwards, met with just exposure and rebuke in the Notes to }'Our Translation of the Eloge,* (page 114), and Avas treated as it deserved by ]\OI. Arago and Dumas, in the IMemoirs of the Institute of France. The Diary of Mr. Cavendish, subsequent!}' * Loudon. John Murray, 1839.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b22017094_0015.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
