An episode in the medieval romance, Cantar (Leyenda, Historia) de los siete infantes de Lara. The other six sons of Lara are shown on horseback on the right. Personifications of madness and vengeance fly above the combatants, urging them on. In the distance Doña Lambra watches from her bedroom window
