Description

The interior of a cabin with three European men sitting around a table, one of them John Thomson. Binoculars on the table, an issue of Harper's Weekly in the foreground, Appleton's Journal on the wall behind. Two Winchester rifles hanging from the ceiling. The same setting and the same men as in Thomson's negative number 815, but the men are in different poses and the copy of Harpers Weekly is missing from the foreground

This is one of a collection of same-size contact prints made, in 1981, from John Thomson's original negatives. The glass negatives, made between 1868 and 1872, were purchased from Thomson by Sir Henry Wellcome in 1921 and are now in the Wellcome Institute Library
